Description
How many unique characteristics can be added to a typeface without compromising its purpose within the text-type genre? Petrona explores this question, incorporating numerous distinctive touches while maintaining readability in digital and print media, from headlines to body text. Uppercase glyphs have heavy asymmetric serifs and arms with inverted angles, combined with lowercase designs that feature a large x-height, pronounced ascenders, and soft curves with low stroke contrast. First published on Google Fonts as a single-style Roman design, Petrona was then completely redrawn, evolving to offer a comprehensive range of weights, a complete set of corresponding italics, and an extended glyph set supporting over 200 Latin languages. As a variable font, it includes a Weight axis in Roman and Italic styles, making it a versatile choice for fine typography. Design by Ringo R. Seeber with the mentorship of Eduardo Tunni.
